The heir to the anti-federalist ID and UEN groups of the last European Parliament was formed on 1 July. The Europe of Freedom and Democracy group comprises MEPs from eight countries. The largest contigent is from the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP), whose leader Nigel Farage (pictured) becomes Co-president of the group.
The second-largest contigent are the Northern League, who EP head of delegation Enrico Speroni was elected as the other Co-President. Other parties in the group are two MEPs from the Danish People's Party, two from the Greek People's Orthodox Rally, Bas Belder of the Dutch Reformed Political Party, Philippe de Villiers of Movement for France, Timo Soini of the True Finns party and Jaroslav Paška of the Slovak National Party.
There are about 40 MEPs who are yet to join a political group, predominantly members of the far right.
