Markos Kyprianou has resigned as Commissioner for Health at the European Commission, to join the Cypriot government as Minister for Foreign Affairs, following the election of Demetris Christofias as President on February 24. He is replaced by Androulla Vassilliou, wife of former Cypriot president Georgios Vassilliou.
My Kyprianou, who had served as Commissioner for Health since 2004, resigned a year before his mandate was due to expire. He served as Cypriot Minister for Finance between 2003 and 2004.
