 | Czech President Václav Klaus fell one vote short of gaining re-election by the country's Members fo Parliament on 8 February. In the third and final round of voting, Klaus beat his challenger Jan Svejnar by 139 votes to 113, but failed to achieve the 140 votes needed to make his victory valid, said Miloslav Vlcek, speaker for the Czech parliament's lower chamber. The vote will now have to be repeated on 15 February, and further candidates may join the contest.
