 | Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero announced in parliament today that his government is to begin talks with the Basque terrorist group ETA in a bid to secure a lasting peace.
ETA declared a permanent ceasefire on 22 March, but is responsible for hundreds of deaths during its campaign for Basque independence.
Sr Rodriguez Zapatero acknowledged the difficulty of the task ahead and said that there would be respect for the different opinions in the Basque Country. Talks are expected to begin during the summer.
