The European Commission has approved Sloveniaís application to adopt the euro from 1 January 2007.
Sloveniaís application must now be approved by the European Parliament and the individual EU member states, which isnít expected to be a problem. A fixed exchange rate between the euro and the Slovenian tolar is expected to be set in July.
Lithuania had also applied to join the eurozone in 2007, but its application was rejected because its inflation rate was 0.1 per cent above the limit set by the European Central Bank.
